Meet The Team
Wendy Paterson, M.Ed., RP
Psychotherapist & Counsellor
I believe the experience of being valued, accepted and respected enhances a person’s capacity to develop confidence, security and a healthy, energized sense of self. Psychotherapy is an opportunity to articulate who you are from your own point of view. The process of putting your experience into words will help you and I know you better. Being understood helps us feel understandable and affectively regulated.
I have worked in the field of mental health in a variety of contexts, both community and private practice, over the past 30 years. I work from psychodynamic, self-psychological, intersubjective and relational perspectives. My clinical aim is to help people develop capacities, heal pain and create better relationships through awareness, understanding and empathy.
I am experienced in the treatment of anxiety, depression, health concerns, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, career development, and issues related to self-esteem and efficacy. We develop a deeper understanding of ourselves by examining the underlying feelings and motivations that impact our behavior and experiences, in the interest of forming new relational patterns.
I have a particular interest in providing consultation and mentoring to health and mental health professionals. Developing our professional sense of self through the experience of being understood and accepted is key to clinical efficacy.
I am a member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
